This listing is abstracted from the TfT publication "An overview of Authoring Systems for CBT and Interactive Multimedia". This listing covers a selection of authoring systems that are available commercially. The facilities provided by the different systems vary widely, as do the costs and the sizes of computers they run on. It is very difficult to give accurate prices for each authoring system because there are often many different options such as CML support, hardware, multi-user support, consultancy, etc., and, of course, prices change. We have therefore drawn up this price guide for each system.
A
Up to approximately £1,000 for a single-user development system. Presenting the training may, in some cases, involve some royalty payment to the supplier on, for example, a per-copy basis.
B
From £1,000 to £5,000 for a single-user development system.
C
Over £5,000. These may be single-user systems. In some cases the minimum system available runs on a network and supports several users.
There are new systems coming onto the market regularly and those already there are developing, so you may have to investigate other systems as well as studying relevant ones from this list in detail.
You will find a Web site for each supplier. These will provide the most up to date information about the specific products.
